Helping Children Respond to God’s Word

We long for children to understand what our Bible lessons mean for their real lives. Bible application is used by God to transform hearts. This is the final element of EGM’s discipleship model. The children will take all they have learned and experienced during the lesson and have the opportunity to respond to it! In order to truly become a Christ follower, we need to take action and apply God’s Word to our lives. This is precisely what we challenge the children to do in the response element. God wants us to live out His truths as part of our everyday…

Leading Children in a Bible Discussion

Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lordyour God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. – Deuteronomy 6:4-9 Bible discussion is a crucial element of the biblical model of discipleship. Many…

Truth: The Core of Every Bible Lesson

When you arrive at the “Truth” section of your Bible lesson, children will have participated in a relationship activity. They’ll be enjoying the positive relational environment you have created. They will have also participated in an experiential activity, where they will have felt emotions that are connected to the lesson aim. Now they will be anxious to learn the Bible lesson. When teaching children at church, biblical truth must be at the core. To prepare to teach this element of EGM’s discipleship model, it’s important to take time to study the Bible passage yourself. It is essential for you to have…

5 Ways to Make the Bible Come Alive for Kids

Teaching kids the Bible is most successful when woven into their experiences. We may have heard numerous sermons on prayer. But it often isn’t until we are in a difficult situation and seek God’s guidance and help that we experience the truth of God’s Word. Children are no different. It is in the everyday experiences of life — lying down and rising up and walking along the road — that we embed God’s Word into our hearts (Deuteronomy 6:7). This is a hallmark feature of the Deuteronomy teaching and a distinct piece of EGM’s approach to children’s ministry. Unfortunately, the…

Relational Ministry Leads to Transformation

Every Generation Ministries has the joy of serving alongside children’s ministry leaders around the world. During our coaching, teaching and training sessions, we often ask children’s workers if they remember having teachers in school who didn’t seem to even like children. We always find a common and unanimous response. News Flash: children’s ministry leaders should love children! Unfortunately, schools around the world are populated by teachers who don’t enjoy leading children. Their job is to communicate information, test for comprehension and give grades. Not only is this true in schools, but it can also be true in churches, where people volunteer…

A biblical model for discipling children

Every Generation Ministries is working with children’s workers in churches around the world to develop transformational children’s ministry. We look to the Bible itself for ministry guidance as we learn how to disciple children. Deuteronomy 6 has been our foundation for developing a growing number of “model” children’s workers around the world. We believe that Deuteronomy 6:4-9 provides five simple qualities of transformational teaching. Each one is essential to the mission of giving every child a chance to respond to God’s Word. Relationship Deuteronomy 6:5-6: Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all…

Bible Truths…Talk About Them

Last Thursday, I had an internet video meeting with one of our EGM team members in East Africa. During that meeting, he shared the progress of our training and development programs for children’s ministry leaders in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In eastern DRC, the EGM-DRC team organized various four-week Model Children’s Worker training programs. During one of the training sessions, a Congolese leader was taught the fourth Model Children’s Worker quality: discussion. The quality of “discussion” centered on the phrase “talk about them” in Deuteronomy 6:7. The focus of the session was creating small-group discussion where children can talk…

Roadmap to a Flourishing Ministry

Not too long ago, my family came together around the dinner table at our home in Kentucky and planned a very special road trip to visit my parents in Southern California. All five of us eagerly gathered around the family laptop as we did a Google Map search. The route across the states was a long one, with many options along the way. We divided the thirty-one hour trip into three days and ever-so-diligently planned the specific route we would take. It would be a lengthy trip, but well worth it in the end – a reunion with my family!…

How We Work

God Determines How We Work Explaining how we work throughout the world can be a little tough, since there’s a lot to it. In a nutshell, Every Generation Ministries exists to help churches fulfill the Great Commission with children – making disciples of children in Christ. We believe God has called the Church to fulfill the Great Commission presented by Jesus Christ (c.f. Matthew 28:16-20) and has called our ministry to help support the Church in their efforts. Below you will find more details about how we work through national Christian leaders to serve local churches and children’s workers in their…

7 Steps to Effective Children's Ministry

In the world today, many children involved in children’s ministry are being taught the Bible like it is just another subject in school. Often, they memorize whole chapters of the Bible, but it is never clarified to the children what those verses have to do with everyday living. Rather, the Bible is taught to children like it is a collection of fables or fairy tales. I think it is a tragedy that children are being taught the Word of God in a way that is disconnected from their real life. But how can we connect the Bible to the real lives…
