Known by Jesus: God at Work in Egypt
“Did He know me?”
It was a simple question from a 10-year-old girl named Nour, but for the EGM-Egypt team serving her, it was a moment they would not soon forget.
Mona*, a dentist in Upper Egypt, attended EGM Egypt’s ministry training and as she thought about the sick children she encountered at the hospital where she worked, God placed a desire in her heart to pray for them and care for them.
Over time, Mona gathered a team of volunteers who began praying together and visiting children in the hospital. Many of the children they met were Muslim, and the team sometimes wondered whether simply playing, listening, comforting, and praying was enough. They longed for the children to know Jesus, but often had no opportunity to speak openly about Him.
One of those children was Nour*.
The first time the team visited her, Nour was very sick and did not speak. When they returned for a second visit, they found her awake, smiling, and ready to interact.
As Mona played with her, she asked a simple question.
“What is your favorite color?”
“White,” Nour answered.
“Why white?”
“Because it reminds me of the dream I had yesterday.”
Nour explained that a man had come to her in her dream. “He was different from the doctors,” she said. “He told me, ‘I will give you medicine that will make you better.’”
“And what happened?”
“I took the medicine.”
Nour’s mother then shared that her daughter was doing remarkably better that day. She was awake and talking, and her condition had improved enough that doctors had removed medical equipment from her body.
The children’s worker asked, “Would you recognize the man if you saw him again?”
“Yes. I remember Him.”
When she showed Nour several images of Jesus, Nour pointed to one.
“This is Him. This is the One who came to me.”
“Do you know His name?”
“No.”
“His name is Jesus.”
Nour paused and asked:
“Did He know me?”
“Yes,” Mona reassured her. “He knows you. You can talk to Him because He loves you.”
For Mona and her team, Nour’s story was a beautiful encouragement. They had wondered whether their quiet acts of love and faithful presence were enough. Her story reminded them that their role is to love, pray for, and serve the children God places before them and trust Him with what only He can do.
Children Growing in God’s Word
Nour’s story is one beautiful example of how God is working through EGM-Egypt. Across the ministry, children are encountering God’s Word, families are being encouraged, and leaders are being equipped to care for children facing especially difficult circumstances.
At the Heroes Children’s Conference in Minya, children were encouraged to spend time with God for themselves. After the conference, around 80 children completed a 40-day journey through the Gospel of John, reading Scripture and praying each day.
Many wanted to continue, so the team provided another devotional journey through the Gospel of Mark; an encouraging sign of children developing a growing desire to know God through His Word.
Caring for Children Affected by War
God is also opening doors for EGM-Egypt to serve children and families displaced by conflict.
The ministry has served Palestinian children who came to Egypt for medical treatment and equipped local children’s workers in the El Arish region to continue walking alongside them.
In Assiut, 24 leaders serving children from Gaza and Sudan also received specialized trauma training. These leaders are now better equipped with practical tools to understand and care for children who have experienced war, displacement, and loss.
Discipleship That Reaches the Family
For years, the EGM-Egypt team has also dreamed of helping parents become more intentional in discipling their children at home. This year, that vision began taking shape through a Family Day attended by approximately 55 children and family members.
Through games, activities, children’s teaching, and a parenting session, families were encouraged to strengthen their relationships and help their children grow in their relationship with Jesus.

For Mona and the EGM-Egypt team, Nour’s question is one they will not soon forget: “Did He know me?” Her story is a beautiful reminder that God sees and knows each child and that our calling is to faithfully love, serve, and point them toward Him.
