Sometimes the light of Christ is seen most clearly in small, faithful moments of care.
This summer, EGM-Syria has helped support churches across the country as they host VBS programs for children. Rooted in the theme “Salt and Light,” children are learning what it means to follow Jesus and reflect His love in their communities.
After only one year of ministry in Syria, 102 leaders have been equipped through DiscipleMakers training. Through their faithful service, approximately 720 children have already encountered the Gospel and learned about the love of Jesus.
In a place where ministry is not easy, we are celebrating every child reached, every leader equipped, and every church strengthened for the work of discipleship.
One of those children was Omar.*
Omar came to camp from a family facing very difficult circumstances. His family is extremely poor, and his brother has an intellectual disability. Carrying the weight of these challenges, Omar often seemed distracted and unable to concentrate. On the first day of camp, he was closed off and kept to himself.
Then, during break time, Omar fell and injured his forehead. He was frightened, but the counselors quickly took him to the hospital, stayed by his side, and prayed for him. For the first time, Omar experienced that kind of personal attention, love, and care. It deeply touched his heart.
When he returned from the hospital, the leaders prayed with him and thanked the Lord for His protection. When asked if he wanted to say anything, Omar replied, “I want to thank Jesus because He protected me and the injury was not serious. And because the counselors cared for me. I love you, and I love Jesus.”
From that moment on, Omar was different. He returned to camp as a transformed child, attentive, joyful, and fully participating in the activities.
This is the beauty of children’s ministry. Sometimes a child’s heart opens not only through words spoken, but through love shown in action. Through the care of his counselors, Omar experienced a glimpse of the love of Christ, and it changed him.
Please continue to pray for the summer camps happening over the next two months, that more children would hear the gospel and receive God’s love. Pray also for Mariam* our national director and her team as they travel throughout the country, asking the Lord for safety, protection, and wisdom. As EGM-Syria plans for the year ahead, pray for clear direction from the Lord and open doors for the right relationships.
