“My name is Catherine, and I serve as a children’s church leader in Bidibidi Refugee Settlement, Zone 1. When I first began teaching children’s church, I felt overwhelmed. Many of the children had experienced war or loss, and their behavior made me feel unqualified and ready to quit. Everything changed when I attended a Leadership Development session with EGM Uganda. I learned that children don’t need a perfect teacher; they need one who reaches their heart with love and acceptance.
One girl named Ruth challenged me deeply. Instead of correcting her constantly, I began giving her responsibility, and slowly her heart softened. One day I heard her say, “Teacher says Jesus loves me, even when I make mistakes.” Months later, her mother came to church and told me her daughter was kinder and now prays every night. I nearly quit, but God used this training to transform me and to bring healing to a family through a child.”
